About A Place to Turn

A Place to Turn is a free guide for neighbors in Greenville County, South Carolina. You start with what is happening to you, and it helps you find a clear next step: food, housing, health care, mental-health support, re-entry, and help when someone you love is in jail.

Why we built it

When you are facing a hard moment, you shouldn't have to dig through dozens of websites or know the exact name of an agency to get help. This guide brings 62 trusted local organizations into one place, organized around real human situations rather than bureaucratic categories.

How it's organized

Every resource is sorted into clear categories of need — currently 13 of them, from Food Assistance to Mental Health & Recovery. Because each person's circumstances are different, we also build dedicated pages for specific situations: a veteran looking for housing, a parent who needs food for their family, or someone seeking a free clinic without an ID. There are 49 of these situation pages so far, and we're adding more.

The goal is simple: whatever you type into a search engine or ask an AI assistant about your situation, you should land on a page with the specific, local resources that can help you.

How to use it

  • Search your situation from the homepage or the All Resources page.
  • Browse by need using the category buttons.
  • Filter by who you are — veteran, family, youth, and more.
  • Call directly — every listing includes phone numbers and addresses.
